To Ensure a Fair and Equitable Community for All

  • Eliminate discrimination in housing, employment, public accommodations, education and credit.
  • Eliminate discrimination based on age, race, creed, color, sex, national origin, religion, mental or physical disability, familial status, marital status, sexual orientation and gender identity.
  • Sponsor programs promoting goodwill among the various racial, religious and ethnic groups of the Sioux City area.

The Sioux City Human Rights Commission is a neutral fact-finding agency that investigates complaints of discrimination. We only investigate cases of alleged discrimination that have both occurred in Sioux City and within the last 300 days. If the issue occurred outside city limits, we can make a referral to an appropriate agency.

Whereas we investigate cases of discrimination we are also devoted to preventing such incidents. We are willing to educate community members by request.

We also sponsor a wide variety of outreach events that connect with and support the diversity of our community. With our events we seek to promote goodwill and understanding. We currently have five annual events. We also host a variety of forums throughout any given year. Recurring themes have been disabilities and immigration.
